The life cycle of a typical monarch butterfly lasts 4 to 5 weeks. However, when summer is over and temperatures drop drastically, a special generation of monarch butterflies is born. This new group, also known as the Methuselah generation, is gifted with an incredibly long lifespan (8 months) in order to undertake the titanic journey of immigrating from Canada to Mexico. This photo-metallic sculpture uses this powerful symbol to represent immigrants from all over the world who risk their lives in search of a better future. All of the metal butterflies were hand-cut, and feature original pictures of immigrants from Mexico, China, Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Peru and Ecuador, printed on their wings.
